Web Chat

Visitor chat on your site, with handoff to SMS or a live call.

One script tag. No site token and no server code. Do not rebuild the chat bubble or the chat-to-text handoff; the script already does it.

When to use this vs REST

Use Web Chat to put a chat bubble on a website. There is no REST equivalent for the visitor side; replies from your team show up in Shared Inbox.

Do not rebuild

  • The chat bubble, transcript, or typing indicators.
  • Handoff from chat to SMS or a live call.

Drop-in

No token and no server code. Create a chat widget in Drop Cowboy®, then drop this loader on pages you want it to appear. Origin is enforced against the widget allowlist.

<script src="https://webforms.dropcowboy.com/latest/dropcowboy-loader.min.js"
        data-messenger-id="YOUR_CHAT_SITE_ID"
        defer></script>
<script>
// The loader is deferred, so call it once the page has parsed.
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function () {
  DropCowboy.chat.open();
});
</script>

JS API / HTML tag

Method What it does
DropCowboy.chat.open() Opens the chat bubble.
DropCowboy.chat.close() Closes the chat panel. The launcher stays on the page.

Auth and scopes

Site-scoped chat_site_id via data-messenger-id (Origin enforced)

Limits

  • The loader only runs on origins in the chat widget allowlist.
  • Create the chat widget in Drop Cowboy first; the data-messenger-id comes from there.
  • None. Chat is configured in Drop Cowboy and runs from the loader.
