Connect AI tools
Updated October 1, 2026
Connect AI tools such as Claude and Cursor to your Drop Cowboy® account. They can then look up your account and help with tasks where you already work. Connections use MCP, a standard way for AI tools to talk to other apps.
Connect an AI tool
Some tools connect when you sign in with your Drop Cowboy account. Others use an API key that Connect AI creates for you.
| Tool | How it connects | Where you finish setup |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Cowork | Sign in | Claude, under Customize, then Connectors |
| Claude Desktop | Sign in | Claude, under Customize, then Connectors |
| Claude Code | Sign in | Your terminal |
| VS Code / GitHub Copilot | Sign in | ~/.vscode/mcp.json |
| Cursor | API key | ~/.cursor/mcp.json |
| Windsurf | API key | ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json |
- Open Connect AI in the left menu.
- Under Choose your AI tool, click your tool. Its steps open on the right.
- Finish the setup for your tool, below.
- To check it works, ask your tool something simple, such as "What's my Drop Cowboy account balance?"
If you don't see Connect AI, ask your account owner for access.
Claude Cowork and the Claude app
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Click Copy URL under Remote MCP server URL on the Connect AI page, and paste it into Claude.
- Leave OAuth Client ID and Client Secret empty.
- Sign in with your Drop Cowboy account when Claude asks.
Claude Code
- Click Copy command under Command on the Connect AI page, and run it in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http dropcowboy https://mcp.dropcowboy.com/mcp
- In Claude Code, run
/mcpand choosedropcowboy. - Sign in with your Drop Cowboy account when the browser opens.
VS Code
- In VS Code with GitHub Copilot, run
MCP: Open User Configurationfrom the Command Palette. - Click Copy config under MCP config, and merge the block into
~/.vscode/mcp.json. Don't add API key headers. - Sign in with your Drop Cowboy account when VS Code asks.
Cursor and Windsurf
- Under Key permissions, choose Read only or Standard. To pick exact areas, click Customize individual scopes.
- Click Create key for Cursor or Create key for Windsurf.
- Click Use these credentials in config, then click Copy config.
- Merge the block into your config file. In Windsurf, open the file from the hammer icon in the Cascade panel, then Configure.
- Restart Cursor, or click Refresh in the Windsurf MCP panel.
The key's secret shows only once, so finish the setup before you leave the page. A key can never do more than your own access allows.
If it doesn't work:
- Your tool shows a config error. The file has a missing comma or an extra brace. Add the block inside the existing outer braces, check the file is valid JSON, then restart the tool.
- The tools don't show up. Restart or reload your AI tool, then ask again.
- The sign-in window doesn't open. Remove the connection in your tool, add it again, and sign in when asked.
- A request fails with a permission error. Create a new key with Standard permissions. If Standard is greyed out, or the request still fails, ask your account owner to widen your access. See Set what each person can do.
Add an MCP server
This lets your dashboard assistant or your AI agents use tools from another service that offers an MCP server.
- Open Settings in the left menu, then click Integrations.
- Under Automation & AI Tools, click MCP Servers.
- Click Add MCP Server.
- Fill in Name and Server URL. Leave Transport on Streamable HTTP unless the service says to use Server-Sent Events (SSE).
- Under Visibility, choose All team members or Only me.
- If the service gave you a token, paste it into Auth Header (optional).
- Under Enable for, tick Dashboard AI Assistant, Voice AI Agents, or both.
- Click Save & Test. The server appears under Connected servers with the number of tools it offers.
To check a server still answers, click Test on its row.
If it doesn't work:
- The test fails. Check the Server URL and the Auth Header (optional) value with the service, then click Save & Test again.
- The server shows no tools. Switch Transport to the other option and click Save & Test.
- Your AI agent doesn't use the tools. Check Voice AI Agents is ticked under Enable for, then test your agent again.
Ask ChatGPT or Claude about Drop Cowboy
A connected AI tool can look up Drop Cowboy help articles and API reference pages, as well as your own account.
- Open Connect AI in the left menu and connect Claude, as in Connect an AI tool.
- In Claude, ask a how-to question that names Drop Cowboy, such as "In Drop Cowboy, how do I connect my own domain?"
- Ask about your account in the same chat, such as "What's my Drop Cowboy account balance?"
- For ChatGPT, or any assistant you haven't connected, paste the address of a help article and ask your question about it.
For quick answers with no setup, press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K in your dashboard to ask the dashboard assistant.
If it doesn't work:
- Claude answers from general knowledge instead of your account. Check the connector is turned on for the chat, then ask again and name Drop Cowboy.
- ChatGPT can't open the help article. Copy the article text into the chat instead, then ask again.
- The answer is out of date. Ask your connected tool to look it up in Drop Cowboy help, or check the article itself.
