Email campaigns
Updated October 1, 2026
An email campaign in Drop Cowboy® sends one email to everyone on a list who has an email address. It goes out from a mailbox on your own domain, and your brand's postal address is added to the footer of every email.
Send an email campaign
Use this to email a list, for a newsletter, an offer or an announcement.
- Open Campaigns in the left menu. Click New, then Email Campaign.
- On Choose your content source, click Compose here to write the email in the wizard, or Use a saved template.
- With a template, pick it under Choose a template. To change its subject for this send only, fill in Subject override. With no templates, click Create a Template, or see Create an email template. Click Continue.
- On Who are you emailing?, fill in Campaign Name and pick your Trusted Brand.
- Pick a Contact List. Click Continue.
- On Message, pick the From mailbox the email comes from. Add a Reply-to address if replies should go somewhere else.
- Fill in the Subject line and the Preheader / preview text, the short line most inboxes show after the subject.
- If you chose Compose here, write the body. Click Personalization to add merge fields, such as the contact's first name.
- On When should we send?, click Send now or Spread over time. To spread it, set the Start date, Duration (hours), Include weekends, Delivery window timezone and Sending speed, in emails per hour.
- On Review and launch, check the details. Tick each box under Compliance & CAN-SPAM Attestation, then click Launch Campaign.
Contacts who opted out of email, or who are on your do-not-contact list, are skipped. See How consent works.
If it doesn't work:
- "Connect SMTP or verify your brand to send email campaigns." Click Connect email to add an email domain. Or click Trust Center to verify your brand.
- "No email mailboxes configured." Click Configure Mailboxes and give each person a mailbox.
- "Your mailboxes all sit on transactional domains." Campaigns need a mailbox on a marketing domain. Add an email domain for marketing, then add a mailbox on it.
- "No registered brands found." Click Register a Brand and finish it in Trust Center.
- "This brand is missing a complete mailing address." Click Update it in Trust Center. and add the street, city, state and postal code.
- "This list doesn't contain any contacts with email addresses." Pick another list, or add email addresses to these contacts.
- Some contacts didn't get it. Results such as Hard Bounce or Recipient Opted Out Of Email each have a fix on See campaign results. To reach them another way, follow up when a send fails.
If you don't see Campaigns, ask your account owner for access.
Track opens and clicks
Use this to see how people responded to an email campaign after it went out.
- Open Campaigns in the left menu and click the email campaign.
- Under Showing data for:, pick a time range, such as Today or All Time.
- On Overview, read the counts:
| Count | What it means |
|---|---|
| Sent | Emails handed to the recipient's email provider. |
| Delivered | Emails the recipient's provider accepted. |
| Opened | Emails someone opened. |
| Clicked | Emails where someone clicked a link. |
| Bounced | Emails the address refused. |
| Pending | Emails still waiting to go out. |
- Scroll to Email Engagement for Opens, Clicks, Spam complaints and Bounces.
- Click Export to download each contact's result.
Not every inbox reports when a message is opened, so treat Clicked as the firmer sign of interest.
If it doesn't work:
- Spam complaints climb. The people who complained won't get your emails again. Check that everyone on the list asked to hear from you, and make the opt-out easy to find.
- Bounced is high. Hard bounces are addresses that don't work. Ask those contacts for a new address before your next send.
