Ringless voicemail and voice broadcasts
Updated October 1, 2026
Drop Cowboy® ringless voicemail technology is designed to deliver your message directly to each contact's voicemail. A voice broadcast calls each contact and plays your message to whoever answers. Both use one wizard, with a recording or a script read by a Mimic AI® voice.
Send a ringless voicemail
Use this to leave the same voice message for everyone on a list.
- Open Campaigns in the left menu. Click New, then Broadcast Campaign.
- On Start, pick a Message style:
- Static recording: everyone hears the same recording.
- Typed message: you write a script and a Mimic AI voice reads it.
- Under Delivery, click Ringless voicemail. Click Continue.
- On Who are you calling?, fill in Name your campaign. Pick your Trusted brand and your Contact list. With no brand yet, click Register a Trusted Brand. With no list, click Create a Contact List and build a list.
- Optional: Local presence shows which area codes your list needs. To buy local numbers for the missing ones, click the button that starts Buy numbers for. Always identify your business location truthfully when asked by recipients.
- On Message, set Your voicemail message:
- For a recording, pick one from the list. With none, click Upload or dial in to record. See Record a message.
- For a script, click Type it (Mimic AI® voice), pick a Mimic AI® voice, and write the script. Use Personalization to add merge fields such as the contact's first name.
- On If they call you back, choose where return calls go:
- AI receptionist replays your message, answers questions from your knowledge bases, and transfers interested callers. See Set up an AI receptionist.
- Phone line sends return calls and texts to the Phone Line you pick.
- The phone line on this step is also the caller ID: contacts see one of its numbers, or your team's default line. Only bring-your-own-carrier (BYOC) teams can show a custom caller ID. See Choose the caller ID people see.
- On When should we send?, click Send now or Spread over time. To spread it, set the Start date, Duration (hours), Include weekends, Delivery window timezone and Sending speed. Sends follow federal and state-specific calling hours automatically. See How calling hours work.
- On Review and launch, check Launch readiness and Content review. Tick each box under Compliance & TCPA Attestation, then click Launch Campaign.
The wizard saves a draft as you go. Pick it up later from the Draft tab on the Campaigns page.
If it doesn't work:
- "Connect your carrier or verify your brand to launch campaigns." Click Trust Center to verify your business. Bring-your-own-carrier teams click Carrier Hub.
- "This list doesn't contain any contacts." Pick another list, or import contacts into this one.
- "This phone line has no phone numbers assigned." Click Add phone numbers to this phone line, or pick another line.
- Some contacts didn't get it. Open the campaign and read each result on See campaign results. To try them again another way, follow up when a send fails.
If you don't see Campaigns, ask your account owner for access.
Send a voice broadcast
Use this when you want a call that plays your message to a person who answers, and leaves it on voicemail otherwise.
- Open Campaigns in the left menu. Click New, then Broadcast Campaign.
- On Start, pick a Message style. Under Delivery, click Voice Broadcast. Click Continue.
- On Who are you calling?, fill in Name your campaign, then pick your Trusted brand and Contact list.
- On Message, if you picked Typed message, choose One message or Two messages:
- One message: the same clip plays for a person and for voicemail.
- Two messages: write Your voicemail message, then a separate clip under If someone answers.
- To use a Mimic AI voice, click Type it (Mimic AI® voice), pick a Mimic AI® voice, and write the script. To add a voice, click Upload or dial in to add one, or see Choose a voice.
- Optional: open Press-key options to let people reach you. Set a Transfer digit, then a Transfer destination:
- Phone line keeps the call in Drop Cowboy, with the inbox and that line's routing.
- Outside number sends it to a number you type, like +13125550142. The call leaves Drop Cowboy, so it isn't in your inbox or recorded.
- The opt-out digit defaults to 9. Say it in your script so people know how to stop your calls.
- Finish If they call you back, When should we send? and Review and launch as in steps 7-10 of Send a ringless voicemail. The callback phone line is also the caller ID.
Live Voice Agent is a third message style. A Mimic AI Voice Agent talks and listens instead of playing a clip. It shows Upgrade when your account doesn't include it. See AI agents.
If it doesn't work:
- Transfer destination is outlined in red. A transfer digit needs somewhere to send the call. Pick a phone line, type an outside number, or clear the digit.
- Results show No Answer, Busy or Timeout. Nobody took the call this time. See what each result means on See campaign results, then follow up when a send fails.
